Make Democracy Work!

The League of Women Voters of Oak Ridge, a nonpartisan political organization for men and women, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League neither supports nor opposes any candidate, party, or political appointee.

The League works to bring about constructive change by

  • registering voters and defending voting rights.
  • informing citizens about their rights and responsibilities.
  • informing the public through our in-depth issue analyses.
  • sponsoring candidate debates and public issue forums.
  • taking action through lobbying for change.

Recent National News

There are several items of national interest in the February edition of the LWVOR newsletter, The Voter. There is a League statement regarding alleged voter fraud, a description of the Electoral College process, and a League position on the Electoral College. You may find these articles informative.

Recent Local News

We have added several recent items of interest on the web site. The first is a report from a meeting of the LWV Tennessee State Action Committee, another contains information about the planned Febb and Harry Burn Memorial in Knoxville, and the last one is a summary of the good works of Remote Area Medical, from the featured speech at the December Holiday Luncheon.
